Display creative & DCO
The banner is the lever almost nobody pulls. We build HTML5 and dynamic creative that loads fast, fits every placement, and updates from live data, then judge it on conversions.
Creative & Performance Director

Display creative is where most budgets quietly leak. A handful of static JPGs, resized by hand, miss half the available placements and go stale before a campaign warms up. We replace that with one dynamic HTML5 master that produces every standard IAB size and refreshes from a product or offer feed, so each impression shows the right thing.
What you get
- One dynamic master, every size. A single design generates all six standard IAB units, so no placement is left without the right banner.
- Live data feeds. Product, price, availability and location pulled in at serve time, which is what makes retargeting and DTC catalogues work.
- Lean builds. Every unit ships well under the 600 KB Google Ads HTML5 budget, with no auto-play audio and no external calls.
- Conversion-led iteration. Three concepts rotate weekly, scored on conversion rate, not on what looks nicest in a deck.
The standard IAB banner sizes we build
Four units carry most inventory; we build the full set so spend can flow to whatever performs. For the full reference, see our guide to standard banner ad sizes.
| Size | Name | Where it runs |
|---|---|---|
| 300×250 ★ | Medium Rectangle | Highest-inventory unit; sits inline within article content. |
| 728×90 ★ | Leaderboard | Top-of-page desktop workhorse. |
| 160×600 ★ | Wide Skyscraper | Tall sidebar unit with strong dwell time. |
| 336×280 ★ | Large Rectangle | Slightly larger in-content unit; strong viewability. |
| 300×600 | Half Page | High-impact vertical canvas; premium viewability. |
| 320×50 | Mobile Leaderboard | Standard mobile banner anchored to the screen edge. |
| 970×250 | Billboard | Large desktop brand canvas above the fold. |
★ marks the four sizes with the most advertiser inventory.
Formats we build
One master, many outputs. From a single design system we ship every format a modern display plan needs, each tuned to the placement rather than stretched to fit it.
- Static HTML5 banners for fast, lightweight reach across the standard sizes.
- Animated HTML5 with motion that stops inside the 30-second limit and reads in the first two seconds.
- Dynamic creative (DCO) that pulls product, price, availability and location from a live feed per impression.
- Responsive display ads for long-tail inventory the fixed set does not cover.
- Rich media and expandable units where the placement and the budget justify them.
Our creative process
Creative is a system, not a one-off. The same loop runs every engagement, which is how turnaround drops from a typical nine or ten days to about two.
- Brief and teardown of the current banners, against the file rules and the placements.
- Three distinct concepts, not one safe option dressed three ways.
- Build the dynamic master and wire the feed, with static backups for every size.
- QA against Google Ads and exchange specs: file weight, clickTag, no external calls.
- Launch, then rotate and score weekly on conversion rate, retiring what loses.
Why creative beats bidding
Display click-through is low by design, cold banners sit around 0.05%–0.1% and retargeting near 0.7%. You cannot bid your way out of a weak banner, but better creative moves both click-through and the metrics that pay: view-through conversions and cost per acquisition. That is the single biggest reason we lead with creative, then connect it to programmatic media.
Frequently asked questions
DCO builds each banner at serve time from a template plus a live data feed, so one ad can show a different product, price or message per viewer. Instead of producing dozens of fixed creatives, you maintain one master. Across the industry, DCO is associated with roughly a 20% to 30% lift in click-through and conversion versus static ads, though the range is wide.
A Google Ads HTML5 ad uploads as a ZIP of up to 600 KB containing at most 40 files; static image ads are capped at 150 KB. Animation must stop within 30 seconds. Many programmatic exchanges also apply a tighter initial-load limit, so we build lean and keep every unit comfortably inside the budget.
Four sizes carry most display inventory: 300×250, 728×90, 160×600 and 336×280. We build all six standard IAB sizes from one master so no placement is skipped, then let spend concentrate on the units that win. Mobile needs 320×50, and 300×600 adds high-viewability inventory on desktop.
We build HTML5 in Google Web Designer, which is free and exports clean ads for Google Ads and DV360, and use creative-management platforms such as Bannerflow or Celtra for larger dynamic feeds. The tool matters less than the discipline: lean files, no external calls, and creative judged on conversion rate.
